This is the WORD that the world needs today:
1 Clap your hands, all peoples!
Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
2 For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
a great king over all the earth.
3 He subdued peoples under us,
and nations under our feet.
4 He chose our heritage for us,
the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah
5 God has gone up with a shout,
the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
7 For God is the King of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm!
8 God reigns over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples gather
as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
he is highly exalted!
Psalm 47 ESV
Just when we think that a massive storm can take God’s thunder away from him, the Scriptures testify powerfully and terrifyingly that He is in charge, that nothing falls outside of His will, and that He ultimately is the greatest force to be reckoned with.
But His characteristics do not just stop at His authority, power, might, loftiness, and sheer force. Just as profoundly (and probably more personally) He is, at the very same time a “great King!” And how does a great King deal with His people?
- He put gladness in our hearts that lead to “songs of joy.”
- He graciously selected us to be a part of His family (“chose our heritage” “people of the God of Abraham”).
- He loves us deeply and takes great pride in us (“the pride of Jacob whom he loves”).
- He is and will continue to be our great protector amidst the “storm” (“For the shields of the earth belong to God”).
Take heart today, church! God is near. He is with us. He is our King. He is our Savior. And…He loves us!
