I, on behalf of the elders and finance team, am writing both to inform you and ask for your prayer regarding an exciting direction we are convinced that God is leading our church. Two and a half years ago I was brought into a full time staff position with Aletheia, commissioned to serve as the Executive Pastor. This decision came about due to the lack of clarity we had regarding our vision as a church, and more precisely, our lack of structure and strategy to execute that vision.
Over the last two plus years on staff we have seen God bring about much fruit. Today we have a clear vision that most of you can quote, but more importantly, has become a part of your common language.
“To see a greater worship of Jesus as He rescues and restores all people to Himself through disciple making and church planting.”
This vision has become our aim and our target. It is a guiding light for us as we seek to fulfill all that God has called us to be and do. We are grateful for God’s kindness to us in giving us this clarity. In addition to this, we have implemented many helpful systems including our Mission Membership process that has helped facilitate growth from 90 members to 158 members (not including our 30 soon to be Mission Members), bringing us to 188 total members by Christmas. What started as a Mission Leader process has now evolved into an entire Deacon track (tons of credit to Pastor Ian Thomas’s effort), in which we are currently training and equipping 18 men and women to help lead out in the vision God has given us. By God’s grace, we have seen our operating budget increase from $18,000 per month to $50,000, providing us with many opportunities to further the worship of Jesus. During this time we have had multiple part time and full time staff members serving as an executive assistant and Aletheia Jr. Director. There are many noteworthy things but possibly none more exciting than having facilitated a partnership with another church to plant an additional expression of the local church in Seminole Heights!
I could go on about all that we’ve seen God do over the last two years; I share this with you not to take any credit personally, but to draw your attention to how God has faithfully used ALL of Aletheia Church to chip away at the calling He has put before us. He is doing a great work and we are all along for the ride.
This ride is now taking us in another exciting turn that we believe will best set us up for continued realization and implementation of the vision God has given us. With the growth we have experienced, it has become evident that we are in need of more help at the staff pastor level. Specifically, we need help at both the executive and the shepherding care levels. At this point I, Jimmy, have been filling both of these roles at some level, not being able to fully engage in either one. In order for Aletheia to grow both wide and deep my job needs to be divided into two separate roles and filled with men called specifically to each. So that’s what we are doing.
We are officially opening the Executive Pastor position, which is a full-time role. We will also begin to write the job description for my new role overseeing discipleship and pastoral care (official title TBD). This is an exciting moment for all of us as we believe that Aletheia is in desperate need for a next level executive that loves Jesus, his family and Jesus’s church. In addition, this is an exciting transition for me. As some of you know, I’ve been studying biblical counseling for nearly two years as well as engaging in this extremely important ministry within our church. The elders all agree that God is uniquely calling me to a role that is more fitting with this aspect of my giftedness and we are all leaning into that together.
So here we are. We are on a search for the next staff pastor, and we can’t wait to see what God has planned for this church that He loves so dearly. Will you please pray for us pastors as we seek God’s wisdom and direction? Will you pass this along to anyone who may be interested in learning more about this opportunity? Will you prayerfully submit to God as He continues to lead us on a mission to see a greater worship of Jesus in and around us?
Humbly by His Grace,
Pastor JimmyLearn More
