JOIN US FOR AN IN-DEPTH BIBLE STUDY!

We have experienced so much success over the past year and a half with our Women’s Bible Study and we cannot wait for the men to join in on this important element of discipleship! Men and women will meet separately on alternating weeks, but we will be studying the same content. We are excited for the unity that this will bring as our church will be studying God’s Word together.

Join us as we learn to love God with our minds as well as our hearts through the intentional study of the first 10 chapters of Genesis! The opening chapters of Genesis teach us fundamental truths about God. We watch Him bring light after darkness, order after chaos, and rest after toil—all through the power of His Word. Challenge your basic understanding of familiar stories through three critical stages of understanding: comprehension, interpretation, and application. And gain knowledge of yourself by first understanding God as He has revealed Himself through Scripture.

We will be gathering weekly on Tuesday nights starting August 6 through December 10, but will alternate men and women meeting each week. Our first meeting will be a joint introduction. Following the initial meeting we will alternate women’s study and men’s study every other Tuesday evening.

WHY IS IN-DEPTH BIBLE STUDY IMPORTANT?

Discipleship is extremely layered and the tendency for Christians is to focus on some elements of it, while missing out on others. One example is the way we see and study the Scriptures. If our main means of Bible study is informal, organic, reflective, and self-commentary related, we tend to miss out on the actual process of developing a proper hermeneutic to Bible study (hermeneutic = the science of Bible interpretation which takes into account the historical, literary, grammatical, and literal contexts of Scripture).

One of the best ways to help our people develop their own hermeneutic is by putting them in a classroom-style setting where they are actually studying the Bible in a systematic way, working through a book of the Bible, learning what it means to truly “hide the Word of God in their hearts.”

We are so excited about this study and can’t wait for you to join us!

A NOTE FROM JEN WILKIN

Author of God of Creation, A Study of Genesis 1-11

“This Bible study may be different than studies you have done in the past. It will not cover a specific topic from all angles. It will not focus on answering the question “What does the Bible say about me?” It will not aid you in self-discovery, at least not as its primary intent.

What it will do is teach you an important passage of the Bible in a way that will stay with you for years to come. It will challenge you to move beyond loving God with just your heart to loving Him with your mind. It will focus on answering the question “What does the Bible say about God?” It will aid you in the worthy task of God-discovery.

We look first for what a passage can teach us about the character of God, allowing self-discovery to be the byproduct of God-discovery. This is a much better approach because there can be no true knowledge of self apart from knowledge of God.

Women are good at loving God with their hearts. We are good at engaging our emotions in our pursuit of God. But the God who commands us to love with the totality of our heart, soul, and strength also commands us to love Him with all of our minds. And it is your mind that I want to engage.”

WORDS FROM PREVIOUS BIBLE STUDY ATTENDEES

“Since participating in this bible study, I feel like my hunger and passion for truly studying the word has exponentially increased. Rather than just skimming on the surface level and reading words on a page, I was able to dive deeper into the Word and connect the dots behind what each passage meant.”

“I enjoyed the intimate groups where we could share what we were learning without fear of being judged. I loved seeing the group transform as we went further into the study. We became more confident in our own ability to read and understand the Bible.”

“I have tried answering this and honestly I can not condense it into two to three sentences. I loved each moment, sentence and new understanding of what it was teaching and pointing our hearts and minds too.”
