What We Believe

WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT GOD, THE GOSPEL & HIS WORD.

Our Core Beliefs are what we hold to be the key doctrines that ground the Christian faith as they are found in the Scriptures. We expect all members of Aletheia to be in full agreement with these Core Beliefs.

Our full STATEMENT OF FAITH can be viewed here. There are a number of secondary beliefs contained in each of these sections that heavily influence and direct the culture and direction of our church. Complete agreement is not required for the sake of membership, but it should be known that we will preach, teach, lead, and counsel in accordance with these convictions.

Our Core Beliefs

  • The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ loves and saves sinners. It declares that though we are broken by sin and unable to rescue ourselves, Jesus, in love, came to do what we could not; living the life we failed to live, dying the death we deserved, rising again in victory over sin and death, & ascending into eternal glory! Through Him, forgiveness is offered, righteousness is given, and new life is secured; not by our effort, but by His grace.

  • We believe in one God eternally existing as one essence and three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, each of whom is fully God, yet there is one God. (Deut. 6:4, Gen. 1:1-2, John 1:1, 1:14, Acts 5:3-4, Matt. 28:18-20)

  • We believe that the sixty-six books of the Bible are the Word of God and the ultimate doctrinal authority on all matters.(2 Tim. 3:14-17, 2 Pet. 1:19-21, Heb. 4:12, Isa. 40:6-8) 

  • We believe that God created the world from nothing and rules, reigns, sustains, and governs all things at all times in all places. (Gen. 1:1, Deut. 10:14, Ps. 24:1, Ps. 89:11, Col. 1:17, Heb. 1:3) 

  • We believe that God has created human beings, male and female, in his image, and that all humans possess intrinsic worth, value, and dignity (Gen. 1:26-30, Gen. 9:6, Jas. 3:9)

  • We believe that Sin has fractured all things, leaving the world in desperate need for salvation and redemption. (Gen. 3, Rom. 3:9-20, 23, 5:12-14, Eph. 2:1-3)

  • We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. (Gal. 2:20, 1 Pet. 2:24-25, Eph. 2:4-9, 1 Cor. 15:1-6, 2 Cor. 5:14-21)

  • We believe that the Church is comprised of those who have been born-again by God’s grace into the body of Christ, sent into the world to shine forth the glory of God and to declare and display the good news of the gospel. (1 Cor. 12:12-31, Matt. 28:18-20, 1 Peter 2:9-12, Acts 20:28, Eph. 2:11-22)

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is returning to the world to judge the living and the dead. (Acts 17:30-31, 2 Tim. 4:1, Rev. 20-21)

HOW OUR CONVICTIONS SHAPE OUR MISSION & MINISTRY

While it is necessary that members at Aletheia Church be in full agreement and unity regarding the Statement of Basic Beliefs (above), there are a number of secondary beliefs that influence and direct the life of our church. Not all Christians hold these beliefs, but they are nonetheless important as we are convinced by the Scriptures. Complete agreement is not required for the sake of membership, but it should be known that we will preach, teach, lead and counsel in accordance with these convictions. 

  • We believe in the absolute sovereignty of God in saving sinners. Faith & repentance are a necessary response to the regenerating saving act of God. We are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, and not by our own doing.

  • We believe that God has beautifully ordained in Scripture that men & women are equal before God but not equivalent in role and function. In God’s wise creational design, men & women are not simply interchangeable pieces, but complement one another. We believe this complementary relationship should be displayed in both marriage and the leadership of the church.

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit empowers and distributes spiritual gifts to the saints. We believe all gifts given to the Church by the Holy Spirit will continue until Christ’s return. These gifts are to be exercised with discernment and order, honoring the character and nature of God.

  • We believe the normative pattern in the New Testament is baptism by immersion in water subsequent to salvation. We believe baptism by immersion represents our union with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection.

  • We believe there are two Biblical offices for leadership in the local church: elder and deacon. 

    Acts 20:28-32, Phil. 1:1, 1 Tim. 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9, Heb. 13:17

  • We believe that church planting is the primary means of reaching lost people in the New Testament. Since Aletheia holds firm to this conviction, we are committed to the training, equipping, and sending out of leaders and members to start new local churches as God leads.
